Superbilling Insurance for Therapy Sessions

Rally Point is currently in-network with a number of insurance plans - but if you have an out of network plan, superbilling is one option that can potentially help you get reimbursed for the out-of-pocket payments you make for sessions.

What is Superbilling?

Superbilling is the process of getting reimbursed by your insurance company for healthcare (or therapy) costs that you have paid for out-of-pocket.

How Superbilling Works:

Step 1: Pay for Sessions

You attend sessions at Rally Point and pay out-of-pocket at our full practice rate.

Step 2: Submit Receipts to Insurance

Rally Point gives you a special receipt called a superbill which you submit to your insurance network.

Step 3: Receive Reimbursements

Your insurance network reimburses you directly for a portion (usually a percentage) of the costs you have paid for sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • The easiest option is to use your login to our secure client portal.

Inside the portal, you can manage generated superbills, statements, and your billing details.

You can also ask your therapist about enabling automatic superbills that are then sent to you via email.

  • The easiest option we have found is an app called “Reimbursify” (reimbursify.com).

Once you create an account and enter your insurance plan information, all you have to do is enter a few numbers listed on your super-bill and the app takes care of the rest! You’ll get updates via email as your claim is submitted to and processed by your insurance company.

Other options include sending superbills in the mail - or by filling out paperwork that your insurance network provides.

  • The amount you can be reimbursed for sessions is specific to your relationship with your insurance network.

In the past, we have heard about clients receiving reimbursements ranging from 30% to full rate.

We highly recommend speaking with your insurance network directly to determine the details of your plan. The best customer service number for your specific plan is usually found on the back of your insurance card.

  • If you are calling to speak with your insurance network about benefits related to sessions at Rally Point; here are some important details and questions you may need during your conversation:

    • The best customer service number for your specific plan is usually found on the back of your insurance card.

    • Mental/Behavioral health benefits are often different from normal medical coverage. We recommend asking to speak with someone specifically about mental or behavioral health benefits on your plan.

    • If Rally Point is not in-network with your plan, (most likely the case if you are calling about superbilling), make sure to specify that you are looking to discuss benefits for an out-of-network provider.

    • Rally Point is a mental/behavioral health provider. Counseling sessions are categorized in the “outpatient” category of service, and are considered a “professional office visit”.

    • If asked, Rally Point’s company Type 2 NPI (national provider identifier) number is 156-804-6423.

  • In short - the answer to this question is that a client may be billed for sessions under the umbrella of “self-pay” or “insurance” - but not both at the same time. This determination comes from our agreement with insurance networks, and regulations in state law. Superbilling falls under the “insurance” umbrella, and we cannot bill discounted session rates unless a client switches to “self-pay” for sessions.

As a practice, we have a standard rate for clinical hours. When Rally Point enters into a contract with a specific insurance network, special terms and discounted rates are agreed upon before our practice is considered to be “in-network”.

For insurance providers that we are not contracted with - we are considered to be “out-of-network” and our full rate applies.

If Rally Point is not in-network with your insurance network or plan, our team can help you understand whether superbilling or paying out of pocket from our sliding scale is the best option for your specific situation.

  • Insurance situations can be complicated. Our team works with a variety of billing factors every day - and is happy to help you figure out questions related to your specific situation.
